Design Plans For the Future

The Downtown Clawson Framework Urban Design Plan, adopted in 2004, offers guidance for long-term growth of the downtown. It encourages development that focuses on a pedestrian friendly downtown. This vision for the future features a mix of retail at street level with residential living on the upper floors and the creation of three new streets within the downtown providing additional development opportunities.

The City of Clawson Master Plan, adopted in 2009, offers additional guidance for future development, of all types, in the downtown and throughout the city.

With an eye to improved walkability and bicycle facilities, the Clawson DDA is currently working with SEMCOG – Southeastern Michigan Council of Governments – to create a plan for additional pedestrian crossings in the downtown as well as improved bike pathways and parking.

Plans for Improved Parking

As the Downtown flourishes we recognize the need to create additional parking and to create space that is visually appealing and inviting to our residents and visitors.

To help us achieve that goal we have created a plan to improve our municipal parking areas which increases the parking while adding greenspace and decorative walkways. With the cooperation and assistance of the downtown business and property owners, we hope to make this a reality.
