Great weather, great time! We had a record crowd and lots of fun. Our thanks go out to the many businesses that pay for advertising on the screen to sponsor the event. A special thanks to r. collective salon, Twy-Fit and Pop-Art Studio for providing and working the entertainment venues.

The parade is over, bbq’s are cool, and the fireworks have faded but the celebration isn’t over. It’s time to get ready for the 9th Annual Cinema in the Street. The day is Saturday, July 9. The place is South Main Street. The time for games and entertainment is 6-9pm and the movie starts at dusk. Bring a blanket or chair and get ready to enjoy a movie under the stars.

Summer is upon us
Monday, June 27
Spring has sprung and summer begun! What’s happening downtown? Businesses are expanding and new businesses are sprouting.
New businesses are, Hart & Harlow Salon which will open at 247 E. 14 Mile in late July. Renovations are underway at 28 S. Main for Montage Grill, a new southern Mediterranean restaurant with a late summer opening planned. Early July will bring the opening of Clawson Jewelers – 45 S. Main – which will feature fine jewelry and watch repair. And, Pure Balance Massage opened its doors at 116 S. Main on June 22nd for appointments.
On the expanding business front, 54 West is a new restaurant venture for the owner of Mojave Cantina and while connected to the cantina, it will have a look, feel and menu all its own. And finally, the home of the former Clawson Theater will open at the end of summer as The Show at Leon & Lulu.
Pretty great stuff for a small downtown! Go Clawson!!
Regulations for future growth
Friday, April 29
Following several public meetings, surveys and workshops the Downtown Master Plan was adopted at the end of last year. The new plan respects the history of Clawson and its pattern of growth by creating three distinct zoning areas – the Downtown Core, Core Fringe, and Core Residential.
Now it’s time for the next phase – setting the ordinances to reflect the master plan. The DDA has hired the Clearzoning planning firm to accomplish this task using their format which is very user-friendly including drawings and quick links throughout.
We are again asking for public input. We are asking for help to identify the specific buildings and spaces that are meaningful, rather than seeking general comments about the downtown.
A site has been created for your comments: https://mysidewalk.com/organizations/292504/downtown-clawson
Business celebrations continue throughout April
Tuesday, April 26
April started with Wunderground Magic celebrating 45 years in business. Next was Leon & Lulu where their 10-year birthday was celebrated in typical Leon & Lulu fashion – a full weekend of celebrations with entertainers, music, great food and presents for all who attended.
Hips Resale Boutique was next celebrating five years since Vikki opened the doors to what is now the flagship store. Hips has now grown to Roseville & Detroit locations!
The month will round out with a big party on Saturday, April 30 when Regeneration celebrates 5 years in Downtown Clawson. Congrats to business partners Melanie and Nicole for being voted best thrift store in Oakland County by the Metro Times!
